Siliguri, the gateway of Eastern India, is the principal transit point for going to the Darjeeling hills, Dooars, Sikkim, Bhutan, Eastern Nepal and Assam.
Rapidly emerging as a new commercial hub, Siliguri owes its prosperity to the tea and orange trades. The venue of a number of international sporting tournaments, the city has of late received a facelift. There is also a stadium near the central Kachari Road. A major attraction of Siliguri city is its Hong Kong Market, a virtual Pandora's box for foreign goods of all kinds. The University of North Bengal is situated on the way to Bagdogra, away from the congestion of the main city area.
How To Get There
The major airport of the region, Bagdogra, is only 11 km from Siliguri. Siliguri / New Jalpaiguri is one of the most important railway junctions in the region. By road, Siliguri is connected with Calcutta, Delhi, Bombay, Guwahati, and Katmandu and of course the Darjeeling hills.
