Thusharagiri, a small tribal tourist spot nestled in the backdrop of the mighty western ghats, is around 11 km from Kodenchery and 50 km east of Kozhikode. Sometimes referred as 'Kodaikkanal of the south', Thusharagiri, literally means snow capped mountains is an ideal tourist destination famed for its lush green vegetation, wide array of flora and fauna, enchanting waterfalls and dense forests.
There are five water falls here but the tourists can enjoy only the beauty of three waterfalls, since 2 of them are far away and located in a restricted area, prone to wild animals. Of the three falls which are also located inside the forest in a greenish background, the highest is the thenpara fall that cascade from an altitude of 75 meters. The misty water spray of the three waterfalls offers an exciting and memorable site to the tourists and a 5km upstream trek will take one to the stream’s origin. This destination provides ample opportunities for young and old alike and challenging time for adventurers. The adventurous trekking and rock climbing through the river paths always delight the visitors. Trekkers could reach Vithiri in Wayanad district by evening if they start trekking in the early morning from the second waterfall. September to November is the ideal time to visit this picturesque place. Government of Kerala, identified Thusharagiri as an eco tourist centre.
