Kamandi is a very magical folk dance of Tamil Nadu. Kamandi is also famous as a name of Kaman Pandigai in rural areas of Tamil Nadu. Kamandi folk dance is a beautiful depict of a historic event of Purans. This folk dance is based on a religious event the burning of God of love ‘Manmada’ to ashes by anger of lord Shiva. This folk dance perform during religious festivals and fairs in the state. Villagers divided people in two groups to perform this beautiful folk dance. Both of groups are known as Erintha Kathi and Eriyatha Katchi.
In this Kamandi folk art there are two most important characters Kaman and Rati. Both of the characters perform this beautiful art in beautiful manner. Dancers during their dancer performance wear colorful appropriate cloths and jewelry. Kamandi folk dance is not only well known in villages or rural parts of Tamil Nadu but also it become very entertaining part of urban areas too.
