Buddhism is the predominant religion in Sikkim. So monasteries abound in this state. There are as many as 200 monasteries in Sikkim. But there are also a few temples in Sikkim, put up mainly by the immigrants from the neighboring states, who have settled permanently or temporarily in Sikkim. Some of the Sikkim Temples are:
Hanuman Tok: Hanuman Tok is situated 5 km uphill from the capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok. It is posited at an altitude of 7200 feet above mean sea level. From the temple the pilgrims can get a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks of Khangchendzonga. The temple also presents a bird's eye view of the Selep waterworks. As far as the religiosity is concerned, the deity worshiped here is that of Hanuman, a God of the Hindus. A short distance from the temple lies the cremation ground of the royal family of Sikkim. There are chortens and stupas in the cremation ground, serving the purpose of markers of the places where the departed souls were consigned to flames.
Ganesh Tok: Ganesh Tok is situated at an altitude of 6500 feet, on the Nathula-Gangtok Road adjoining to the TV tower. Ganesh Tok is a very small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple is so small in size that it can hardly accommodate one person who has to enter the temple by crawling. The hillock on which the temple is located presents a view of the city of Gangtok and also of Raj Bhawan.
Besides these two, there are few other Sikkim temples like Thakurbari Temple in Gangtok, Sai Baba Mandir at Balwakhani and there is also a cave in South District which has a Shiva Lingam.
