Atri is one of the famous and well-known hot water sulphur springs in Orissa situated in Khurda district, Orissa. It is located in the middle of the paddy fields surrounds with a distinct odor of sulphur. Constant temperature of 55 degree is maintained by the water at the Atri hot water spring throughout the day. This hot water is reserved in an artificial pond for the use of people. The circumference of the reservoir is 10 feet with the depth of 15 feet. The water is very clear where one can easily see stones inside the pond. It is crystal clear water which is believed to have medical properties having curing powers. It is also famous for refreshing one’s body and soul.
According to the myth of local people, this water even cures the infertility of women. Orissa Tourist Department has constructed a bathing complex beside the spring allowing pilgrims to take hot water bath indoors. Atri is also a holy place with the shrine of Hatakeswar.
The temple of Hatakeswara (Shiva): This temple is located near the Atri sulphur spring which is also very attractive and is a popular tourist spot. On the occasion of Shivratri and Makar Sankranti, this place attires with lots of lightening.
One can reach Atri hot water spring from Bhubaneshwar which is merely 42 km or from Khurda which is 14 km from the spot.
