Ward's lake is tantamount to Shillong as Kutub Minar to Delhi & Tulips to Holland. Positioned in the mid of the city it’s a simulated lake forged with splendor from the days of Britishers. At a distance of 56 kilometres from Shillong, Lake Thadlaskein is a stunning spot for picnic, outing and boating. Lake Umhang is another popular spot among tourists, weekend visits and picnics. Here you can avail the facilities of water sports like Kayaking & water skiing meant for people interested in adventure and for people who are not too brave there is boating.
Situated at a distance of 56 kilometres from Shillong & at a distance of 8 kilometres from Jowai off NH-44, this intriguingly serene lake is a well-known spot for picnics. Believing the tradition, the cohorts of the Jaintia Chieftain U Sajar Nangli grasped the lake. There was a difference of opinion between the Chieftain and the king of Jaintiapur, the Jaintia empire, that now institutes Bangladesh’s Jaintia District.
Situated in the village of Batow in the Hills of Jaintia district of Meghalaya, the yellow plains of Bangladesh which gives a golden appearance is overlooked due to this stunning lake. The Umhang Lake has its resemblance like a gem in a perfect setting of a sylvan. The banks are surrounded by a green dense forest which adds to the beauty of Umhang Lake.
