Chunchanakatte waterfall on the Kaveri River, located near the village of Chunchanakatte in Mysore district. It is located about 15 km from the town of KR Nagar. A natural waterfall with surrounded by greenery makes this place an ideal picnic spot.
Here river Kaveri cascades from a height of about 20 meters. The river falls in two small cascades before joining again to flow as one.
The uniqueness of this place is that the sound of the waterfalls can be heard all over except inside the sanctum sanctorum of the centuries old temple. It is believed that Lord Rama has cursed females that tongue of a woman should not be sharp (should not speak much) and since river Kaveri is considered to be female, the sounds is not heard inside the temple.
The temple dedicated to Lord Kodanda Rama temple is situated just beside the Chunchanakatte waterfalls.
It is also believed that Goddess Sita took holy bath in this river and till now the color of the water looks like mixed with turmeric, oil and shikakai (fruit for hair - natural shampoo). These shades are visible even today when there is huge amount of water flowing in the falls.
Accommodations are available at K R Nagar or Mysore.
