Chhattisgarh is a newly created state of the Indian union. Earlier, it was a part of Madhya Pradesh and in ancient times, the region was famous as Southern Kosal.
The region is named ‘Chhattisgarh’ because of the 36 garh or forts in the area. The romance and beauty of the state owes itself to its several prominent cities, which are each unique in itself.
Raipur: Established by the Kalchuri King, Ram Chandra, in the 14th century AD, it is the biggest city in the region. Quickly emerging as a prominent commercial, industrial and financial center, the city has a dynmic quality about it.
Countless tourist attractions are located in this city which are must to see and enjoy. It includes an Ancient Pond, Shiva Temple, Bhandarpuri and Mahant Ghasidas Mueseum.
Bilaspur: Located on the picturesque banks of River Arpa, the city is approximately 400-year-old. There are a number of tourist spots in the city, like Kanan Pendari, Sai Mangalam, Marimai Mandir Vivekanand Park, Kali Mandir, and Shree Ayappa Swami Mandir.
Dantewada: The city is based on the name of its presiding deity, Devi Danteshwari, considered as an incarnation of shakti. Legend has it that Lord Rama took shelter here during his exile.
