Commercial Museum

Commercial Museum, established in 1956 by the Guwahati University, is the first of its kind in the country set up in an educational complex. The museum houses art and crafts, commercial products, minerals and rocks, coins etc.

Assam is a place of rich cultural heritage and the diversity in Assamese culture is vastly displayed in each and every bit of its art and culture. The museums of Assam exhibit excellent collections of exquisite pieces of culture, art and civilization. The museums store figurines and statues of exquisite craftsmanship of bronze that encompass small prominent images, bells and a conch shell including the largest and most beautiful icon depicts Indra, the Vedic war god.

The museums are the repertory of the finest metal work of ancient times that are exemplary of the Assamese art and culture, the objects of terracotta, wood, superb textiles, tribal artisanship, statues, items made of bronze, silver, and other alloy, archeological, anthropological, anthropological, ethnographic, prehistoric ages, manuscripts, scientific objects etc. Some of the museums are the repertoire of animal husbandry and veterinary science, a specific culture of Sathriya Vaishnavite culture. One of the well admired museums of Assam possesses rare stone images which are of thirteenth century, portrays the legendary Kamarupas, who were in power till the 13th century.
